Damilola Grace Olakanmi, a University of Hertfordshire Student, instantly fell sick after eating just one sweet laced with cannabis. The 23-Year-Old purchased the gummies using a messaging app and had them delivered to her home the same day. Her friend, aged 21, who visited from America, has also become gravely ill after they had the sweet.
By nighttime, on March 29, an ambulance was called to Ms. Grace's home, and she was then taken by air ambulance to Queen’s Hospital in Romford in a critical condition.
Her mother, 51-Year-Old Wumi, reportedly kept a vigil by her daughter’s bedside until she sadly lost her fight for life. Doctors were able to save Grace’s friend, who was later discharged, and so far, Justice campaigner and relative Richard Taylor, 75, has urged young people to resist drugs and shared with London Evening Standard that Wumi has lost her only child; therefore she has nothing now.
The family released this photo of Wumi tenderly kissing her daughter, seen in a hospital bed with tubes taped to her face. It had since melted millions of hearts.
“It’s a tragic warning to all young people about how they live their lives. They should resist drugs. Damilola was a promising young woman who should be looking forward to her future and having her children.” Thankfully, Police have arrested a man in connection with the incident after they found a large quantity of cash and suspected edible cannabis products on him.
Leon Brown, 37, of South Norwood, South-east London, is currently in custody and will appear at Snaresbrook crown next month.
