Jada Pinkett Smith 'Never' Wanted To Marry Will, And Cried The Whole Time At Wedding

Jada Pinkett Smith has admitted she “really didn’t want to get married” to Will Smith. The actress also admitted to crying down the aisle before tying the knot with the Aladdin star on New Year’s Eve in 1997. The duo had tied the knot at the Gothic-style Cloisters Castle in a suburb of Jada’s hometown, Baltimore, Maryland.

Despite their picturesque venue, Jada acknowledged it was actually less than stellar.

In a clip that resurfaced amid the ongoing controversy hinged on Jada's entanglement with R&B singer August Alsina, 29, the 50-Year-Old candidly recalled how her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, also known as “Gammy,” forced her and Smith to wed after she became pregnant with their first son, Jaden, who’s now 23-Year-Old.

“I was under so much pressure, you know, being a young actress, being young and I was just, like pregnant and I just didn’t know to do. I never wanted to be married,” Jada said in an exhumed snippet from her Red Table Talk.

She reiterated: “I really didn’t wanna get married,” as she sat around the circular table with 68-Year-Old Gammy, Smith, 53, and their daughter Willow, 21. A chuckling Smith weighed in and said to Willow: “We only got married because Gammy was crying.” To this, Jada added: “It was almost as if Gammy was like, ‘You have to get married, so let’s talk about the wedding.” Gammy said: “I remember feeling very strongly and wanting you guys to be married.”

Notably, Gammy was aged 18 when she became pregnant with Jada and briefly married her father, Robsol Pinkett Jr.

Gammy added: “I do remember [wanting you and Will to get married] but I don’t remember your rejection of the idea of marriage. I remember the rejection of the idea of a wedding but not of a marriage.” At this time, Jada recalled being persuaded into the wedding submission: “And now Gammy done gone to Will, crying about I don’t want a wedding and now I’m being forced to have a wedding. I just wanted it to be the two of us on a mountain because I was like ‘This is serious business.”

Gammy then conceded: “The wedding was horrible. It was a mess. Jada was sick, she was very unpleasant. She didn’t cooperate with anything.”

A laughing Jada agreed and stated: “And I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so pissed I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way down the aisle.” The situation wasn’t the same for Smith, who attested: “There wasn’t a day in my life that I wanted anything other than being married and having a family. From literally 5 years old, I was picturing what my family would be.”

Notwithstanding, Jada and Smith ultimately agreed that getting hitched was the right call.

Gammy equally apologized for failing to respect her daughter’s protest about a wedding and for being selfish for insisting on a lavish ceremony because Jada is her only child. However, the King Richard star has been banned from the Oscars for 10years over smacking down Comedian Chris Rock on stage. He isn’t permitted to attend the event, whether in person or virtually.
