Nick Jonas & Priyanka Chopra Welcome Baby Girl 12 Weeks Early

Celebrity couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra announced the arrival of their first child who was born at 27-week. The two took to social media to share the happy news of their first baby girl together who was born via a surrogate.

The newborn who was delivered 12 weeks early will remain in at the hospital in Southern California until she's healthy enough to be brought home to her parents.

The couple gave their fans a surprise on the arrival of a new addition to the family through the social media statement.

"We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much," the couple wrote on Instagram.

No other details regarding the baby's name or sex has been revealed so far.

An insider shared that the high-profile couple has long been planning to expand their family had gotten too busy to actually work on it. The insider explained, "Priyanka doesn't have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it's not getting any easier."

"Their busy work schedules also mean that it's difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route."

The two met their surrogate mother in South California through an agency that matched them up. This baby was her fifth surrogacy.

They further explained, "The baby had been due in April but the surrogate ended up giving birth on Sunday, so she was very premature."

Apparently, Priyanka had been trying to finish all her work before the original due date in April. But the early arrival threw a wrench in her plans. The two are now waiting for the baby to be healthy enough to be moved to a hospital in LA.

The source also dispelled any speculations of the couple going through a rut, "There were rumors and speculation that the marriage was in trouble and that they might divorce, but that's total nonsense. Nick and Priyanka are very happy together."

The 'Baywatch' star talked about children with Vanity Fair last year, "They're a big part of our desire for the future. By God's grace, when it happens, it happens."

The two, who got married in 2018, also plan to "slow down" once they have children. Priyanka said that she was "okay with that," and so was her husband. She added, "My priority has always been the next job. I'm a very, very ambitious person. But I think the woman in me is craving balance."

"I'm craving my family life. I'm craving being able to do things for the soul that I didn't do because I was just 'blinders on' and working."
