A 28-year-old Chinese man was sentenced to a three-and-a-half-year serving in prison after robbing $24,000 from her girlfriend. He did it through her phone, which had biometric locks, and you might be wondering how did this man bypass through all that without having a single IT knowledge to hack it.
He did it by lifting his girlfriend's eyelids when she was sleeping.
The Times reported that the man who was called "'Huang" had it all prepared well from the beginning.
His scheme began when his girlfriend got sick and he came over to look after her back in December 2020. Huang prepared food and medicine and soon enough, she fell asleep to rest. Huang started rummaging for her phone and used her fingerprint.
He tried unlocking her Alipay, which requires both fingerprint and facial recognition, by lifting the sleeping woman's eyelids. He changed the phone's passwords and then transferred her balance to his in order to pay off his debts.
Huang was reported and was caught four months later in April 2021. He received a three-and-a-half-year sentence and a 20,000 yuan fine, or around $3,135.
Alipay's spokesperson explained that users can be reimbursed in cases such as this where there can be proven that thievery has occurred. They also offer people to apply more security steps to keep their accounts safe.
