Plus-Size Yogi, 22, Shares How Yoga Let Her Learn Self-Love

Ever felt too big to bend? Dana Falsetti had once felt the same, but the 22-Year-Old has since changed this mindset with determination. The New Hope Native battled with binge-eating, fad diets, and depression for several years. At a point, she believed shedding weight would give her happiness, but it didn’t happen.

Dana Falsetti, 22, struggled with her weight during her college days.

Dana shed over 70lbs of weight from a 300lbs frame yet felt miserable. Eventually, switching to yoga practice changed her life, how she viewed her body and self-worth. Doing yoga practice helped her fight through binge-eating, and so far, Dana has proved you don’t have to look like an anorexic model to be fit, fabulous, and healthy.

Losing weight and gaining it back became a habit, and eventually, a binge-eating disorder took over.

However, she shed some weight at a point but still felt both miserable and unhappy.

On Instagram and Facebook, she shares pictures and videos of herself twisting into wild headstands, one leg effortlessly gliding up after the other. She also leads yoga workshops and online classes worldwide through her company named Nola Tress Yoga. Dana makes a living instructing women how to conduct their practice and how to love their bodies while doing it.

“After all those pounds went away, I was still me. I was still sad, feeling unworthy, feeling even more confused, and just lost. I went to yoga because it was something new to try during a time when I felt like giving up.” Dana told Daily Mail Online, adding that the physical practice led her down the path of inner strength she always needed.

Now, Dana leads workshops across the country focusing on inclusive, body-positive yoga. And Yes, her classes are for everyone.

The Yoga instructor has insisted that the practice is for everyone, regardless of their shape, size, and age.

Before finding her true self, Dana was convinced she was too heavy to hold herself upside down and had been trapped in a bad cycle of negative self-talk, but as she kept practicing, things started to change. She continued: “I was slowly getting glimpses of possibility – I call them the sparks of the practice. When you start to feel a little float, or you feel at ease in a pose that once felt impossible. You start approaching your limits, and to me, that’s the whole point.”

She admitted that when she first started doing yoga, she doubted that she would be able to do more advanced poses because of her size.

Dana had been an all-or-nothing person her whole life, with the belief that it’s a trait that might have contributed to her binge-eating. However, the same characteristic taught her to turn to yoga practice instead of emotional eating. The yoga instructor has insisted that the practice is for everyone and that women of all shapes and sizes can significantly benefit. While her posts mean different things to different people, she doesn’t allow negative comments to break her down.

And when mastered all yoga positions, Dana had no choice but to admit to herself that 'those imaginary limits' were all in her head.

She has since urged her audience to believe they are worthy of love and happiness and a fulfilling life via her caption. She also stated that everything else would get in the way as long as they permit it.
