Demi Lovato shared about her gender identity in the podcast where she invited Alok Vaid-Menon.
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

"I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you," she began. "Over the past year-and-a-half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work, and through this work, I've had the revelation that I identify as non-binary."
"With that said, I'll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them. I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering."
"I want to make it clear I'm still learning and coming into myself - I don't claim to be an expert or a spokesperson," she stated.

"It was the first time in so long that I heard someone else speak my truth," Demi Lovato told Alok.

The two talked about how Demi first attended Alok's poetry show. It was at that show where Demi managed to figure out a few things about herself. She referred to Alok's poetry show as one where she felt a "visceral reaction" that lets her resonate with Alok.
"I feel like the reason why I overdosed in 2018 was because I was ignoring my truth," she proceeded to say.
In subsequent tweets, Demi wrote a wholehearted series of encouragement and for others and gratitude for her own life.

"I was suppressing who I really am in order to please stylists or team members or even fans that wanted me to be the sexy feminine pop star in a leotard and look a certain way; I thought that was what I was supposed to be," she explained.

"Now I realize it's so much more important to live your truth than to ever suppress yourself because that's the kind of stuff that happens when you do."
She clarified that this doesn't mean she'll stop wearing feminine nor flirt with men as to how she's always been. Demi had always been an active speaker of body positivity, frequently posting about celebrating her body after changing her management.
"There might be a time where I wanna wear a full wig, there might be a time where I want to dress completely femme presenting."

"I want people to understand that just because I'm non-binary doesn't mean I'm not going to dress the way I want."
She continued to clarify her pronoun, "To me, it would mean the world if people could start identifying me as they/them. I will also be accepting if people slip and say her/she because I know being in my position, it's going to take a while for people to get used to."
Demi Lovato has had her own series of past relationships with men.

Max Ehrich
After breaking up from her engagement with Max Ehrich, she's been feeling "hella queer" and "can't really see myself even getting pregnant." When invited to The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, she shared, "I don't know. I'm so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off."
