Nick Filippou is a cat owner and the brain behind I Iz Cat, a webcomic hinged on his adorable feline. Artist Nick had initially gone viral with his 10-step comic guide that portrayed how difficult it can be to get a cat to take its pills. Now, Nick’s new series features his day-to-day interactions with his kitten. Artist Filippou has had two cats, Minnie, a feral cat from Little Flower Rescue, and Sylvia, who passed away in 2018. 

Left with Minnie, Filippou, through the I Iz Cat, which is in the vein of ‘Cat Speak,’ shows how great his life with his cat is even though his comics have quite a rudimental drawing style. Specifically, Filippou’s first comic originated from a Christmas poem he wrote about the cat’s perspective of ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ and has since been drawing with Minnie always the inspiration. Filippou loves cats so much that he had volunteered at a local rescue organization in Baltimore, where he met with Minnie. The feline was quite an adventurous girl who had enjoyed hopping over the fence and returning from the woods meowing up a storm. Filippou eventually fell in love and decided to give Minnie anything, including a loving yet forever home.

Artist Filippou’s wife wasn’t a cat person as she pretty much-preferred dogs. But on meeting with Minnie during their courtship days, Filippou admitted that his wife's perception changed, and presently she enjoys the company of Minnie. The couple also adopted a dog, a boxer rescue from Baltimore named Dany. Both Minnie and Danny have become great friends who enjoy snuggling on the couch, even though Minnie is the Queen and Dany remains the subject.

Amid the lockdown, Nick and his wife worked from home to keep their jobs and even had a small backyard wedding in June 2020. Filippou describes the special moment as ‘intimate and beautiful, especially as it had Minnie and Dany in the wedding photos. Nonetheless, the artist had in college adopted Binx, which became best friends with his parents and was indeed loved so much.
