Tango Gao is a mathematics graduate from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, but he decided to turn in his career and focus on art. He later gains his master's degree in the 1990s from the Academy of Arts & Design. He now also works as an advertising creative director. He's released a few books of his own containing his illustrations.

He uses perspectives, shadows, and creatively conveys the story in simple strokes drawings. While they look easy to make, the ideas behind them are undoubtedly clever, uniquely Tango Gao's style. He's been drawing like this for around a decade now, and it was his friend who motivated him to turn it into a routine. Currently based in New York, many of his recent works are inspired by the world's current situation that's being hit by the pandemic.
