Comics have proven to be effective in portraying the harsh reality of our modern world problems. The impact of COVID-19, including stereotypes, the absurd standard of living, among others, have correctly been shown through comics. Ever imagined what happens in the marine world? Oceans are naturally painted in pictures to be beautiful and clean, but this is a stark reality from what’s transpiring today. A German artist identified as Stephanie Hermes has been using her artistic skills to illustrate the struggles faced by marine creatures, using a little Mermaid as the subject matter.
Known for her TrashMaid series, Hermes with the Instagram name @Sos2tagram draws our attention to ocean pollution and its effect in a disturbing way. Our oceans are currently littered with plastic bags, straws, and other kinds of trash. These comics are harrowing and undeniably eye-opening as you glance through them. Although, Sos2tagram does makes the comics lighthearted, but it’s enough to tell that we all need to do something about what’s polluting our ocean. With that said, here is the artist’s newest, and they’re genuinely thought-provoking. Have a look!

Available on Tapas, fans can always head over there to support creators to create by reading for free. Funny, but depressing, that’s how most fans relate to these comics. Not to mention that every comic released brings awareness of how bad we are polluting the water right now.

s0s2tagram draws every comic on the theme of plastic pollution and its impact on the seas. By drawing a rather grimy and dirty modern mermaid, followers can quickly imagine that this is what they’d look like, living close to the cities. Yet, at the same time, s0s2 manages to crack jokes even with such a depressing theme!
