Newlyweds On Honeymoon Are Stuck At Luxury Maldives Resort Due To Lockdown

The situation on the novel virus that sourced from China has spread so much, the Maldives island had to close their airport and go with a lockdown. Unfortunately (or maybe the opposite!), a pair of newlyweds have to remain on the island after their holiday ended. That means, they had to extend their stay.

Which also means... Olivia and Raul De Freitas are enjoying an extended vacation on one of world's most beautiful island and resort.

Olivia, 27, and Raul, 28, planned to spend only one week at Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives for their honeymoon before returning to their home in South Africa. They arrived on the 22nd of March, but airport lockdown has made it impossible to return on the following week according to schedule.

The pair were able to confirm with their travel agent that South African shall face no issue in leaving and returning to their country.

But on their 4th day, the couple received news that the travel restrictions have been applied to South Africa's airports and they can't go back.

But at least, they're in Maldives. Olivia said, "It’s amazing that we get this additional time. Everyone says they want to be stuck on this island until you’re actually stuck, it sounds good because you can leave."

Because of the situation, they were allowed to stay on the resort at a generous price from the usual $750 a night. They explained that their flight home include a three-hour layover in Doba, Qatar after a 5-hour flight. Then, they need to take another 9-hour flight back home to Johannesburg.

Then, similar restrictions have also been imposed on Maldives airport.

They considered speed boating their way to the airport, but that option is equally useless because Maldives has also applied their own travel restrictions. That means the couple can either swim their way there or wait until situation cools down.

But this is at least one place you want to get stuck longer than you have planned and the couple will have one unforgettable honeymoon.

Travel restrictions will remain the same at least until April 16th, but it's said their flights and other tourists' will be sorted out before that.

Definitely the place you want to be quarantined on and enjoy social distancing at its best.
