Vegan Left Devastated After Taking Bite Of KFC’s Plant-Based Burger And Realized It Was Chicken

27-year-old vegan Nic Kent has been eating a plant-based diet for 5 years along with her sister. The two of them went to the KFC to get takeout of new vegan burgers and were pretty excited to see how it turns out. As they were hungry, they quickly went home with it and got them out at home.

The packaging reads 'Zero Chicken', assuring the two vegans that they'll be enjoying burgers like everyone, but with less meat-guilt. Unfortunately, it became Nic Kent's sister's first bite of meat after years of going vegan. Not to mention that it also had cheese, which quickly made the lactose-intolerant lady sick afterward.

Nic Kent, 27 and her sister who have chosen to remain unnamed, have gone vegan for years.

The packaging of the box reads, "Finger lickin' vegan. Until you add non-vegan stuff, obviously."

And it wasn't finger lickin' vegan for them. She said, "You know when you are so hungry and you do not chew? I waited a long time for it so I was hungry and I just wanted to enjoy it. Luckily it was not a big bite."

She went to brush her teeth after that.

"I've been vegan for five years so I knew damn well that was not any plant-based stuff. I could feel all the skin going down my throat."

The mistake was done at the Clifton KFC in Nottingham. Pictured is the supposedly vegan burger she bit into with a piece of chicken in it.

"My sister picked up the burger and checked for me. I should have checked but really I should not have had to. I'm not a militant vegan but I was so grateful that KFC was trying to do something, a place that me and my family could go," she said.

She added, "I just feel disappointed. KFC do not care about vegans or about animal welfare, it's just about money."

They also tried reaching out to the company and her sister went back to the fast-food joint. They were offered a free meal and a refund, but she 'does not trust them anymore'.

Quorn burger by KFC is an original recipe that was released on January 2.

A spokesperson commented on this incident, saying, "We're really sorry for what happened with Nic's order - we got it wrong on this occasion. We offered a full refund straight away and a replacement Vegan Burger, but we realize it's super important we don't slip up - particularly when it comes to allergens."

He added, "We've followed up with our teams to remind them of the importance of getting the right order to the right customer - and we'll keep doing  everything we can to prevent this happening again."
