Well-wishers
have donated
over £11,500 to a 59-Year-Old man who hung a Morrison bag on his Garden Gate
with a note seeking help with electricity and food.
The hard-up man placed a note outside his home in the Carlton area of Nottingham
and it reads: ‘Please Help: I have no food and no electricity. Any assistance
would be appreciated.’
In
hope that passersby would drop a couple of tins of beans in the bag, William
surprisingly received food from the Clifton food bank and his heating and light
was equally turned back on.
Williams
revealed he had only expected a couple of tins of beans when questioned by
local reporters, but offerings, including
cash donations and hot meals, started trooping in.

Revealing
his recent proper meal was a Jam Sandwich, Jenny Connell residing in Carlton also
offered to drop William off at hot dinner a couple of times a week.
Included
in the donations was £1 from an anonymous single working mom who wrote: ‘Sorry
it’s not a lot. In thousands of debt myself, but what’s an extra £1! Merry
Christmas X.’

Another
donated pocket money, while an unidentified well-wisher also chipped in
another £1. Accordingly, someone else donated £1.78 with a message: ‘I can only
apologize and this is all I have in my bank account. We all fall on hard times,
but we all need to assist each other.’
Craig
Crawford, a Businessman who had the balls rolling in said: ‘It’s disheartening,
but also heart-warming seeing people give their earning to assist him. It’s
really humbling and I am proud to see the community pulling together to assist
someone in need.
Cards can be sent to a PO Box which is in the process of being set up

Nevertheless,
Williams had been meeting ends meet by selling off games and furniture following
the death of his mother. Good News:
Adult social care has been contacted to assist Williams in claiming his
benefits.
