Jason Momoa Raises $31,000 In 45 Seconds By Throwing Axes For An Environmental Organisation

Actor Jason Momoa has recently been using his Dothraki strength for good. Stopping by the Ellen Degeneres show, he showed his ax throwing skills to raise funds for his battle against plastic pollution. Before getting down to business, Jason sat down for a chat where he talked about Oscars and intimately explained how his newly shaven look is tied to his newest mission to rid the planet of plastics.

The new look had a massive trending for some time and was Jason’s way of marketing his new company Mananalu, which produces canned water as an environmentally friendly alternative to single-use plastic water bottles.

Through his Instagram posts, Momoa talked about his pre-interview jitters when he was about to speak about his main course in life.

“I was very nervous because I came on to talk about that I love dearly. Our mother earth and what I can do to help,” he wrote.

“I have a mission to get rid of single-use plastic water bottles. To clean up our oceans and land. To ask ourselves how we hydrate. Even though I may carry a canteen to try to reduce these plastics are still being made.”

His Aquaman role was certainly part of the motivation to start a sustainable water company. “I’m Aquaman now and I have all these beautiful kids come up to me and I never thought I’d be a role model,” Momoa said during the show.

“So I wanted to save the planet from single-use plastics.”

As he talked about the Aquaman 2 that is set to be produced Momoa explained that this environmental threat is not a movie,” There's no outside alien destroying the earth, it's us,” he said. “So I was excited to get back in there so I’m working with our previous writer. We’ve got a locked story and we’re getting into it. I think its gonna be in like two years or something. The beard will be back by then.” Momoa added.

“I wanted to kind of save the planet from single-use plastics. I was looking at all these statistics where it's like, 91% of all the plastics we’re using aren’t recyclable.”

After the interview, it was time to throw some axes

The gave Ellen a quick lesson before demonstrating the proper way to throw an ax. “So here’s the thing, because we throw footballs, and baseballs, everyone kind of turns it like this” Momoa turned and demonstrated to Ellen. “It has to go straight over your head… It has to go right with the grain.”

The actor took a swing at the ax and aimed at some water bottle shaped targets at the board.

While the organized stunt did entertain the audience, it was also created for a good cause. In 45 seconds, Momoa raised $31,000 for the organization ‘Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii.’

According to their website, it is “A grassroots, local nonprofit organization run by a small team of dedicated staff and supported by passionate volunteers, just like you. We inspire local communities to care for their coastlines through fun, hands-on beach cleanups. We also coordinate educational programs, team building corporate cleanups, waste diversion services, public awareness campaigns and help others run their own beach cleanups.”
