Boy, 6, Who Took A Chicken To The Hospital Gets Rewarded By His School

A little boy in India became an overnight internet star after he was captured on camera begging hospital staff to save a chick he accidentally ran over with his bike. Six-year-old Derek C Lalchhanhima from Sairang in the Indian state of Mirozam was pictured holding a dead bird in one hand and a 10 rupee note on the other. This was all the money he had in savings.

According to family friends, the little boy didn’t understand that the chicken was already dead and begged his parents to take it to the hospital.

When he realized that his parents weren’t going to help out, he decided to take the frail bird to the doctors on his own. On arrival, the reception nurse was amused by the little boy’s act of kindness and decided to capture his forlorn expression in a photo that was since shared and went viral.

Derek’s father, a police officer was impressed by his son’s kind gesture and shared it with a family friend Sanga. After being told the heartwarming story, Sanga shared the photo on facebook with a caption
'I'm laughing and crying all at the same time'

'According to the father, the boy came home with the neighbor's chick that he had accidentally killed,' Mr. Sanga said in an interview.

'He did not understand that the chick is dead and begged his parents to take it to the hospital,' he said.

'His father told him to go himself, which he did with ten rupees.'

'God bless his pure and honest little heart,' one person commented on the Facebook photo. 'This is heart-touching,' wrote another.

'He's always been a rather unique kid,' Derek's father said.

The hospital staff patiently explained to the boy that there was no help for the poor bird, a disappointment that Derek was not yet able to handle. He went home in tears, determined to go back and get help again. This time he was armed with 100 rupees in his hand. Surely, this was enough to convince the hospital staff to book in the frail bird in his hand.

'His parents finally had to explain to him that the chick is dead and that there's nothing they can do at the hospital,' Mr. Sanga said.

Derek’s newfound fame finally reached his school where he was awarded for the kind gesture he showed by helping the chicken.
