Pixar Makes Everyone Cry By Presenting ‘Kitbull’, A Short Film About A Friendship Of Abused Pitbull And Stray Kitten

Animation lovers were recently treated to a short animated video by Pixar animation studio called ‘purl’. Barely two weeks later the studio has released yet another short film that will guarantee to leave you weeping. The emotional clip is a story about one odd friendship between an abused pit bull and a stray kitten.

Directed by Rosana Sullivan, this short film is a production of Pixar’s new SparkShorts program that tells of very sad circumstances that gave rise to a rare kinship between two totally different characters. Get some popcorns and a bag of tissues, you’re going to need them.

“To be fully honest, it started from a cat video,” – Rosie laughs.

“I love watching cat videos in times of stress. And I thought you know what, I just want to draw a little kitten doing something silly and very very cat-like. At first, I just wanted to draw something that made me feel good and was fun, but it evolved into something more personal to me, eventually, I realized that growing up I was always very sensitive and very shy. And had actually a lot of trouble making connections, making friendships. So I related to this kitten because it never really stepped out of its comfort zone to be vulnerable and make a connection. So that’s eventually what the story became,” the director of the short animation recalls.

The story begins with a stray big-eyed kitten wandering around the neighborhood in search of refuge for the night. In a card box at the corner of a back alley, he meets a pit bull. The poor animal had suffered abuse in the hands of his cold-hearted owner.

The film in many ways tries to portray the negative stereotypes that pit bulls are facing and trying to show that these dogs, unlike their owners have good hearts.

The stray black cat initially shies away from the dog as it clearly showed fear. However, as the video progresses, viewers are shown the bigheartedness of the dog as it saves the cat which had been stuck

The beautifully drawn characters are so cute that some commenters even thought that it reminded them of Spirited Away, a Studio Ghibli’s production. producer of the animation, Kathryn Hendrickson, added that the animation was drawn in 2D which is “different from what Pixar normally does.”
