Photographer Captures The Life Of People Living Inside ‘Coffin Cubicles’ In Hong Kong

There is no doubt that everyone of us is faced with a problem. For many people, the financial situation is the biggest problem ever and that is true in the case of these people who live in cubicle apartments, commonly referred to as 'Coffin Cubicles'. And needless to say, the name that these places get is not an exaggeration. The only difference between a coffin and these 'flats' is whether it is a living or dead person that is inside the coffin.

In a city that is brimming with life and decorated with skyscrapers, there are approximately 200,000 people who are living in inhumane conditions. No, they are not homeless people and some of them do have jobs. They rent out spaces that are as small as 1.5 m², or the size that is just enough for you to stretch your body in. These spaces are so small, you cannot fit everything a human would necessarily need at home: a kitchen, a toilet, and a bed. Most of them fit in a bed and that's it. So, where do they cook? Where do finish their 'business'? This illegal housing is pretty common for some of the poorest people in the city, but these people couldn't help it. Many lost their job and don't have the money to afford a decent place. At least, a place where the toilet does not have to be in the kitchen as well as the laundry room.

#6 It is also not weird to think that these rooms do not come with a toilet.
